Hello!
My name is Rosalind Jovanna from just South of Boston, MA and currently living in Brownsville, Brooklyn.
I have been making art for my entire life, beginning with drawing and then moving to painting and some fabrication as well. I was gifted a camera my freshman year of high school, and it’s been almost exclusively photography ever since. I am drawn to make art that documents singular moments. I think a lot about how my sight is impermanent and also isolated—no one can see through my eyes but me. Where that feeling might have once made me feel alone, I find comfort in the ability of photography to capture and allow me to share the beautiful moments I experience.
My favorite photographers include Ansel Adams, William Eggleston, Joel Meyerowitz, Vivian Maier, and Graciela Iturbide. When I was young, my favorite artists were painters like Monet and John Singer Sargent and glass artists like Tiffany and Chihuly. Light (& color) has always been my main visual fascination, and all of those artists are inspirations to me in my pursuit of capturing beautiful moments of light.
