ABSTRACTIONS

I take a lot of photos that aren’t inherently interesting at first glance, because I see something in the world—a shape or form that interests me—and think “I can use that later.” I strive, with these abstractions, to isolate the shape—take it out of its environment and create a new image out of the form that interested me.

I am also experimenting with color as a means to de-contextualize the shapes, which are mostly plant life. I like to imagine what the world would look like if we perceived color differently, and since there is such a universal definition of things that are green, it’s interesting to take that constriction and ignore it—anything can be any color in my photos.
